Staff Update

I am profoundly grateful for Steve Anderson! He stepped up to the plate to serve as an interim staff member when he saw that his gifts could be utilized in a time of need. Steve's task was to review and understand Wendy's responsibilities and to work with the current staff, and the Board, to determine how best to move forward. After three months of exploration, the Board and I have agreed that the best path is to disperse the responsibilities of the former position, Director of Operations, among the current staff. Starting September 1st, Steve will return to serving as Board Treasurer as intended. Of course, the plan to not fill the role can always be re-examined later.

The main reason for this approach is that our staff is phenomenal! They have risen to the challenge. Marie Archer, Val Bridegam, Dave Kenny, Mika Peterson, and Juliana Alfano have all enthusiastically stepped up and naturally assumed more workload, and several have agreed to increase their weekly hours. Although much of their effort is spent behind-the-scenes, it makes a massive difference in the life of the congregation. Everything from chasing leaky roofs, answering phone calls, to preparing Worship tech, it all helps to create a place where people can grow in their faith, connect with one another, and experience God's love.

What has also made this transition smooth is Wendy Smith's full cooperation. We are exceedingly grateful for her help and support. We look forward to inviting her back for a celebration on Sunday, September 20th. Together, we thank her for her many years of faithful service and wish her the best in the future.

Full disclosure, I still have dreams about hiring an Outreach Coordinator and a Youth Director. At least for now though, those ideas will remain dreams. It's important to proportionally balance the size of our staff with the size of our congregation. Once we grow a bit more... we'll be able to accomplish a bit more. Today, I have full confidence that our current staff can handle the task in front of us.

Over these three months, I have enjoyed many conversations with everyone who has invited me into their living room for cookies and conversation (too many cookies!). Admittedly, I have not gotten around to everyone yet, but that effort continues. As we dream together, I am always left feeling overwhelmingly excited for the years ahead. We have a lot of work to do, but God is in the loving. As we grow, build, and learn, I am reminded why God placed the church in our hands! Together, we can be an example of hope, love, and genuine community for the world.

Gratitude for Wendy!

Join us Sunday, September 20th following Worship to express our appreciation for Wendy's steadfast dedication to our congregation over the years. In many ways, she has been the glue for our community. We look forward to being together with her to celebrate the many life-giving memories in ministry.

If you can't make it in person, I know she would appreciate sending a note of gratitude and Godspeed!

Cafe of Life

It was a life-giving Monday morning at Cafe of Life. Several folks in the congregation helped to cook and distribute a warm meal. Be on the lookout for the next opportunity. This is the Lord at Work!

Teacher Appreciation

The Final Week of Collecting Gift Cards!

During the month of August have been working toward a year-long employee to the month effort, including a teacher at San Carlos Park Elementary and Preschool at the Lamb. These gift cards go a long way in showing our appreciation for local teachers!

Community Shout-out

We are blessed to have the best Music Director in the biz. She put together a make-shift choir to visit a fellow choir member and special friend! It was an afternoon filled with joy, music, and a whole lot of LOVE!!!

Meet the Pastor

It was a great week of "Meet the Pastor! Such a joy to share a greeting with parents and little ones! A faith-based preschool makes a big difference in the life of young families and in the life of the church. Lots of fun collaboration ahead!!

Interfaith Lunch

Local interfaith leaders are opening the gathering to their congregations. The next lunch will be Tuesday, September 22 at 1:00pm. Are you interested in joining us? Let Pastor Lucas know.

Walking The Mourner's Path

We're fortunate to have our Care & Connection Specialist bring a new program to our congregation. Grief support is deeply important to our ministry!

Workshops for Walking the Mourner's Path will be held at Lamb of God Church on Wednesdays at 1:00pm beginning on October 14th, running for 8 weeks. It is open to folks outside of Lamb of God as well, anyone who is grieving.

Walking the Mourner's Path is a Christ-centered small group ministry that works through the pain of grief in a supportive atmosphere. Together, we focus on the process of individual grief and turning towards joyful living – accomplishing what we cannot do alone.

Seekers

Beginning July 1, the Seekers group will be discussing Cherished Belonging: The Healing Power of Love in Divided Times by Fr. Gregory Boyle, SJ. Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation and reentry program in the world.
